"And this time I'm not even lying"
Okay I will get the ball rolling1. not bad a bit busy 52. not so great way to busy 43. cute but not portfolio worthy 4
I am going to go with neither. The one of Shasta is overexposed (black and whites should have areas of whitest white and blackest black, without looking over white or over black ... think Ansel Adams for good exposure examples). The one of Rose is cute, but too busy. Would be better for those kinds of photos if the depth of field was shallower (everything behind the baby out of focus, in other words). But, that being said, you have some nice photos, and you should keep shooting!!
Daisy I agree with you. I worked with the lighting on the first one so maybe I should have left it alone. I will just keep trying.
The top one is my least favorite, but I can't put my finger on why. Just a little cluttered I guess. I'd give it a 5.The middle one is actually my favorite. The facial expression is strong enough that I don't even notice the background. Granted, it would be better with a shallower depth of field, but I still really like it. I'd give it an 8.The third one is a fantastic album photo, but I'd agree, not a portfolio photo. A 7 for cuteness.
I like the middle photo as well. You might experiment with more dramatic or off-center cropping to make busy photos like that one work. However, you do seem to have a talent for capturing facial expressions. Photoshop can make a so-so photo a great one, it's very forgiving that way.
